Heron View, located in Croydon, Greater London, it is well connected to the town centre and offers excellent transport links. Both East and West Croydon train stations are within short distance from Heron View making it well linked to train services with direct trains to and from Central London, and other places such as Southampton, Brighton, Cambridge, Eastbourne etc.

There are numerous parks within walking distance – Both Addiscombe Recreation Grounds and Ashburton Park are minutes away. The town centre boasts a range of shops, cafes and restaurants. There are numerous place of worship throughout the town. Tram stop only a few minutes walk away. The service also offers visitor parking.

Heron View is a specialist care home with nursing that provides a safe, comfortable environment for up to 35 male service users. Heron View supports patients with mental health, neurocognitive disorders and acquired brain injuries. The service specialises in managing aggression and challenging presentations, agitation, sexual disinhibition, vocalisations and other behaviours that pose a risk to themselves or others. Individuals in our care may also present with a variety of physical and or neurological diagnoses such as any type of Dementia, Huntington’s, Korsakoff’s and Alzheimer’s disease.

The service is divided into three units:

  • Mulberry Unit (ground floor) 12 beds
  • Elgin Unit (first floor) 12 beds
  • Woodbury Unit (second floor) 11 beds

We have a specialist and dedicated team that compromises of registered general and mental health nurses, including a Registered Manager, Operations Manager, Team Leader, Clinical Service Manager, Senior Nurse, Activities Coordinator and qualified care staff to support our service users 24 hours a day. Physiotherapy assessments are available to services users should they require it. Our unique person-centred approach encourages engagement with family involvement to create a responsive and service user led environment. Heron View is a purpose-built environment that provides spacious modern amenities, specially adapted open communal spaces and direct access to secure landscaped external gardens and grounds. We encourage our service users to personalise their bedrooms with all rooms offering en-suite bathrooms including access to large shared assisted bathrooms, where required.

Heron View also caters to the needs of individuals subject to Ministry of Justice (MoJ) restrictions, a Community Treatment Order (CTO) – including individuals applicable of Deprivation of Liberties Safeguarding (DoLS) and on Licence as directed by the Parole Board. We aim to reduce the use of medication through the design of our environment and the use of evidence-based non- pharmacological interventions such as dementia care mapping and sensory interventions. Our service is equipped to support individuals who are subject to Ministry of Justice (MoJ) restrictions, Community Treatment Orders (CTOs), Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS), or those on Licence as directed by the Parole Board.

As a care home with 24-hour nursing support, we cater to a variety of health needs, including PEG care, catheter care, urostomy and colostomy management, pain management related to palliative care, and tissue viability care.

Referrals typically come from general hospitals, mental health hospitals, neuro-rehabilitation centres, older persons’ mental health services, or community services where placements have broken down due to challenging behaviours.

  • Males over 18.
  • Complex needs.
  • Challenging behaviours.
  • Diagnosis of ABI/Neurocognitive disorders.
  • Mental health diagnosis.
  • Physical disabilities and/or complex needs.
  • Risks requiring a more robust community placement.
  • A forensic or significant risk history.
  • Informal, subject to DOLs, conditional discharges, on a CTO or on licence as directed by the parole board.
  • Physical and or neurological disorders such as any type of Dementia, Huntington’s, Korsakoff’s and Alzheimer’s disease.
